This Persian Bakhtiari Rug was repaired using a technique that hand spun new cotton yarn with old yarn in the rug’s original foundation and fringe near the area of repair. The new yarn is spun with the old yarn by fraying open each end of the thread, then using a quick twisting motion of the hands, the two threads old and new, become one cotton yarn thread. The cotton thread is then strong enough to be nailed onto a loom where it can prepped for repair and the damaged area can be rewoven.
